Sometimes life feels overwhelming. Too much, too fast, too heavy, too hard…all at once. We rage and scream or retreat and crawl under the covers. Or maybe we live in a constant state of exhaustion and hopelessness. Nothing we do is ever enough and will never be enough.

What if instead, we take a moment to realize that we are not meant to solve all the problems of the world or in our life on our own and right this very minute. What if we just start where we are, do what we can, and call it enough? And then the next minute or the next day we start where we are again?

This way of showing up to life requires that we reel in our mind. It is our mind that convinces us of our shortcomings and our not enough-ness. It convinces us that all is definitely not well. In fact, the mind gets what it wants – a lot of attention – when it spirals from one thing to the next. Reel it in!

How to reel it in? Start where you are, do what you can, call it enough. Repeat often.

And one more thing…remember that you are not alone. No matter what is happening or where you find yourself, you are not alone. We are all stumbling and growing and learning. All of us. Every single one of us. We are all finding our way.

I don’t want to feel overwhelmed. I want to feel something new is possible. So, I’m going to start where I am, do what I can, and call it enough.

Whew!
