I am convinced there is not enough stillness in our lives.
Our minds are forever rambling, figuring, planning, processing, struggling. We are constantly distracted by podcasts, YouTube videos, music and TV from a multitude of streaming services, and our incessant scrolling, scrolling, scrolling through the myriad of social media platforms.
Our bodies are forever running, moving, decorating, cooking, cleaning, creating, working, reading, playing, exercising, singing, writing, reciting, performing, driving, dancing, eating, gardening, hiking, lifting, fixing. Need I go on? In a word…busy.
Where is there room for stillness? I mean doing nothing, listening to nothing, and letting the mind rest. Just letting it all be. Sitting still and noticing. Sitting still, eyes closed and following the breath. We’ve let ourselves stray so far you might think stillness is not even possible. It is possible, and I believe, essential.
Stillness is essential because it is medicine for the soul. It is what keeps the soul nourished. In stillness the whole world slows and we come into the moment. In stillness, our soul reminds us why we are here. It helps us stay grounded. It eases our pain. It prepares us for living.
Get in touch with your soul. Be still.
Remembering to be still.
