I read this quote by Brianna Weist. “Not everything you lose is a loss. Some things are a freedom.”

Not everything you lose leaves a gaping hole. It’s not something you must endure. Sometimes you can simply be grateful and find a new way forward. That feels like freedom.

Not everything you leave behind is a loss. Setting something down, having used it to get this far, knowing it doesn’t quite fit from here on. At first it feels like a loss and then it feels like freedom.

It’s not possible to accumulate for your entire life. Adding on and adding on. It’s too much. You can leave some things behind. You can feel the freedom in that. Freedom feels good. It’s light and filled with possibility. Filled with a kind of ease and clarity. Unburdened.

There is another quote I notice often. It is contained in a painting by Deborah Cavenaugh that hangs in our dining room. “I am learning to live in the ebb and flow.”

Yes, I think that’s it.
