Nature laid a brand-new carpet this week in Halyburton Park. Her wind took the needles from her long leaf pines and spread them across her forest floor. Bright, crisp, honey brown needles gently woven together in a million different patterns. Fall is here. Nature knows it. And now with our temperatures more in keeping with the season, so do we.
I like fall. I don’t mind the shorter daylight hours. I like the feeling that things are slowing down a bit. It seems easier to breathe. I like the sounds…rustling leaves, honking geese and the ‘thunk’ of a pine cone hitting the ground. I like how the sun feels warm in the cool air. And how the bees and the hummingbirds are pulling the last of the nectar from the few flowers still blooming.
It’s easy to miss the delight and awe of nature. We are all too busy and too worried about too many important things. This is your invitation to notice the natural world. Take a walk, look out the window, sit on a bench somewhere. Notice. And be in awe.
Joyful
