“A calm and modest life brings more happiness than the pursuit of success combined with constant restlessness.” Albert Einstein

Are you happy? Would you describe your life as calm and modest? Is Einstein right?

To me the underlying wisdom here is this…happiness is borne of being grounded, awake in the moment and of not being thrown off center by things out of your control. A happy life is one in which the heart leads the way…rather than the desire for more, better, bigger, stronger, higher, faster, shinier, prettier, easier…and yes, the constant restlessness in the pursuit of it all.

The heart asks: what makes you feel good inside? What words do you say, what actions do you take, what decisions do you make, what choices are the ones that make you feel good inside?

Chances are, if you are honest with yourself, you might feel a whole lot better spending less time on Facebook and more time face to face, less time on Twitter and more time together, less time watching movies and more time moving, less time listening to political rhetoric and more time walking your own talk.

Take a deep breath…calm down, be grateful, look at people, especially those you love. Look up from your phone, smile, rest a moment, feel the sun or the rain on your face. Take a walk, read a book, be still.

Believe that a calm and modest life is the foundation of happiness.

By the way…you can be calm just about anywhere.

All is well.
