Life is not always ‘light and love’. Positivity is toxic when spread over raw, real emotions that reflect the difficulties and challenges of this human life. Negative emotions are not wrong; they are simply our response to stimuli.

We feel emotion. It is an ability we have to feel hurt, pain, anger, sadness. None of these emotions are wrong.  Life is about first having the experience of the emotion and then deciding what to do with it.

Negative emotions are not to be avoided. They’re not bad or something to get rid of. The emotions that cause discomfort are something we can channel.  If we are brave enough to sit with them, question them, examine them…we might just find our way.

What can I do with this anger, grief, exhaustion? How can I be with this? Maybe…who can I ask for help with this? How can I live with this?

Every uncomfortable emotion can eventually be useful with reflection. When we suspend reaction, feel the emotion and enter into reflection, we have the chance to become the light.
