Acceptance means refusing to resist. It does not mean it’s all okay and everything is fine and I’m good. Acceptance is refusing to resist. It means not pushing against or fighting…but to experience life as it comes. Life in all of its messiness and heartache and doubt. In all of its beauty, awe and power.
Acceptance is not resignation nor is it giving up. It is embracing life as life happens to be. Embracing means being genuine and authentic in the moment. Acceptance includes embracing joy as well as sadness, triumph and disappointment, ease and frustration. Acceptance is living the human experience without resistance.
Acceptance is not complacency or indifference. It is a place of power because it makes room for the next possibility. We don’t get bogged down; we live life looking forward moment by moment. Forward is where there is possibility.
The sisters of acceptance are curiosity and humility. These sisters help keep me out of judgment, blame and worry. They give me a wider perspective and a calm centeredness. They remind me I’m not alone and I can only control me.
Acceptance is a way of life. It is a choice about how to live. It is not a requirement. You either choose to accept or not. When I choose acceptance instead of resistance I make room for the mystery. That’s enough motivation for me.
